Stories & Spotlights

On August 8, 2025, Lone Star Online Academy kicked off the school year with a sweet tradition — Ice Cream Socials hosted in nearly 10 cities across Texas. From Beaumont to Waco, dozens of students, families, and staff came together to enjoy frozen treats, make new friends, and celebrate the start of a new academic year.

Across each location, smiles and laughter filled the air. These gatherings gave LSOA families an opportunity to connect in person, building bonds that go beyond the virtual classroom.

“The Ice Cream Social was a special opportunity for students, parents, and guardians to connect in person,” said Trenia Dunn, an LSOA teacher from Beaumont, Texas. “In a virtual learning environment, moments like this help build a sense of community. Everyone—from staff and students to parents and guardians—truly appreciated the chance to celebrate the start of a new school year and make new friends. I’m excited for our next outing and the chance to deepen relationships with our LSOA families.”

The sentiment was the same across other cities.

“It was so special seeing our students, families, and staff connect in person,” said Carley Beck, LSOA teacher in Waco, Texas. “Even though we’re a virtual school, events like this show that our community is strong and relationships here are real.”

As the last ice cream cones were finished and goodbyes were exchanged, one thing was clear: these events marked more than the beginning of a school year — they reinforced the heart of LSOA’s mission to connect, support, and celebrate its students and families across Texas.

Here’s to more shared moments, meaningful connections, and of course… more ice cream.
